New Release Tuesday!

Fishing Gus

It’s Tuesday, which means we have another great new release at Bugaboo Stamps, and it features Mr. Old Fart himself “GUS”.  I love the sentiment that comes with the image, it fits Gus and most men perfectly!

I colored the image with Copics, then added a glaze to his glasses.  Unfortunately, one of the glasses looks blurry, I think it’s the photo!  So I’ll just say it’s his bi-focals.  The designer paper is from the Marjolaine Paper pad by Basic Grey.  I embossed the panel with the Gears folder from Cuttlebug.

Stamps R Us Challenge – “There Was A Little Girl”!

Happy Monday everyone, and I hope you are ready for another great challenge with us at Stamps R Us!  Our sponsor is A Day For Daisies digital stamps, and she very generously gave the DT’s some images to work with.  I hope you will check out the store, there are lots of amazing digitals to chose from. We also have a generous prize for one lucky person.

Now the theme for this week is “There Was A Little Girl”, so we want to see cards/projects featuring little girls.  How easy is that!

                  A Special Flower

I’m use the adorable image called “A Special Flower”.  I colored the hair and skin with copics, then paper pieced the dress.  I cut the arms away from the paper, so that I could slip the dress underneath, and it also gives the arms some depth.  I also paper pieced the flowers.  I used foam dots to pop up the flower in her hand, then added a curly “Q”.

I made the large flower with the Tim Holtz Tattered Floral dies.  The pink cardstock is embossed with a folder from Sizzix.  Designer paper is by Lucy Bird.  The sentiment is from Create With TLC.

Catch The Bug – Red, White and Blue Plus Ribbon

                     Baseball Trio

This week at Catch The Bug Challenge Blog, the theme is RED, WHITE and BLUE plus ribbon.  I’ve used the image “Baseball Trio”What a great way to spend your summer holidays, watching or playing baseball!

I used Copic markers to color the image, then layered it on blue and red card stock.  The star designer paper is from a paper pack from the dollar store. Gotta love the dollar store!  I also used the Martha Stewart Dot border punch.  The sentiment is a sticker, wish I layered on stars cut from a Cricut cartridge.

The Outlawz/Promarkers Challenge

Happy Friday everyone!  It’s a holiday here in Quebec, so a nice long week-end for us.  This week on The Outlawz Challenges site, it’s everyone’s favourite “Anything Goes!  So as long as you use either Copics or Promarkers or even both, the sky’s the limit!

                  Fabiana (2)

This week I’ve used a digital image I  have had for ages, and all I know is the image is called “Fabiana”.  I wish I knew from where she came!  If you have any idea please let me know!

I’ve used Copics to color the image.   You may have noticed that most of my cards have been purples and greens lately, why you ask?  Well, due to a postal strike here in Canada, my copics and refills are having a holiday, laying about in some postal facility!  Since I can only get copics online, I am stuck until the strike is over.  Good thing I like purple and green.

I’ve made a “Cross-Over” card, and you can find the tutorial here, on the Top Tip Tuesday challenge blog.  They are very easy to do, and I love that they have a pocket.  The designer paper is from a Martha Stewart paper pad.  I’ve used the round and oval Spellbinder dies to layer the image.  Since every fairy deserves a little sparkle, I’ve added some crystal stickles to the wings.  I’ve kept the card very plain, as I wanted the image to be the focal point.

This is a picture of the insert.  I’ve made a tag, or you could use it as a book mark.  The sentiment is a freebie from Create With TLC.

So, don’t forget to head on over to The Outlawz, they have lots of challenges, one each day all running weekly. and some pretty fabulous prizes for each month.  Good luck!

Paper Beads Tutorial

A while ago I got interested in making my own paper beads.  I saw a lot of tutorials on the internet, but this is my take on it.

Cardstock cut 12 inches long with one end 3/4 inch tapering to 1/4 inch at the other end.  Stick or dowel or skewer, glue and modge podge glue or any glue that dries clear and shiny.

                                                  number 1

1.  You can draw on the back of the cardstock that is 12 x 12 your pieces that are 3/4 inches on one end, and tapers to 1/4 inch on the other, or you can just use left over card stock, like I do.   These beads can be any size you would like.  Then you can either cut them with your cutting machine, or a ruler and exacto knife.

 number 2   number 3   number 4

2.  Roll up your strips on a skewer starting at the widest end, all the way to the top narrow end, then secure end with a bit of glue.

                         number 5     number 6
                                               number 7

3.  After making all your beads, thread them back on the skewer.  I use an old paint brush to coat each bead with the Modge Podge glue.  Then leave them to dry.  I usually give them 2 – 3 coats of the glue, it will protect the paper, and make the beads very hard.  Once they are completely dry remove from the skewer, and they are ready to use.

Hint:  While they are drying I move them a bit so they don’t stick to the skewer.

                                              number 8

4.  This is what they are like once they have dried completely.  It doesn’t take long, maybe an hour.  They become quite hard like a normal bead.

                                              number 9

5.  Try using different sizes and co-ordinate the beads with your projects.  Here is a book mark I made with the Bugaboo Stamp “AKV Reading Time”, and as you can see I have used different sized papers.  The little beads are strips of paper 6 inches long, and about 1/4 of an inch wide.

I hope you will give this a try, it’s simple and cheap.  I keep a jar on my craft table, and put all my long thin scraps there, so that when I want to make beads I will have the papers I need.

I’d love to see any of your projects that you create using this tutorial.  Have fun, and thanks for stopping by!

New Release Tuesday!

This week at Bugaboo Stamps our new release is featuring the “infamous” Stella!  I love anything to do with the digital images featuring Stella.  They always make we smile and giggle, and are always a big hit when I have giving my card to someone.  This week is no different, you will surely laugh when you see what Stella is up to again!

             Stella Coffee

I love the sentiment that comes with the image, and it is so something Stella would say!  Although I am not a coffee drinker (hate it).  I can understand the threat…lol.  So head on over to Bugaboo stamps and see what else Stella is up to, you won’t be disappointed.  Don’t forget to check out the other cards/projects on the Catch The Bug Blog.

Catch The Bug Challenge – It’s A Mans World

                   Poppi Lemonade

Our new challenge this week at Catch The Bug is “It’s A Mans World”.  I’ve used the image “Poppi Penguin – Lemonade”.

I created a background of the sky and clouds with Copics.  Then just added some sand also with copics.  I colored all the image except for the umbrella, which is paper pieced.  The designer paper is from the Sweet Fairy Paper pad.  I’ve used the oval and scalloped die by Spellbinders for the layers behind the image.  The sentiment is another freebie from Create With TLC.  The brad is from a set called Island Lagoon Brads.  I used a Sakura Glaze pen on the glasses, and the lemonade.

The Outlawz Copic/Promarker Challenge

Another week has gone by, and it’s time for a Copic/Promarker challenge on The Outlawz.  This week the theme is a bit more challenging, it’s  “Pleats and Fold”

                  Sassy Cheryls The Rushed Gift

I’ve used an image from Sassy Cheryls, and it’s called “The Rushed Gift”.  The layout of the card is taken from a previous sketch challenge at Sweet Sketch Wednesday.  I ended up getting my dates crossed so was too late to enter it in the challenge, oh well!

I colored the image with Copics, and then layered it with card stock, and added dollar store gems in the corners.  I used a Martha Stewart border punch for the lace, then added the ribbon on top.  Flowers are by Prima, and papers are leftovers from previous cards.  I recycled!

Freebie Friday At Bugaboo Stamps

                   Fireman Numbers

This weeks Freebie Friday release at Bugaboo Stamps is “Fireman Numbers”.  What a great image idea for birthdays.   Make sure you check out the rest of the Fireman Numbers set at the store.

I colored the image with copics, and decided to turn down two of the corners and then added pearls.  The designer paper is from a Martha Stewart paper pad.  I used the Swirls embossing folder by Cuttlebug.  The buttons are by Doodlebug, and the sentiment is a rubber stamp.

As you can see my fireman is wearing yellow and black, which is what they wear in my neck of the woods.  What ever happened to the red coat and hat.  I guess yellow is easier to spot in case of danger.

New Release Tuesday!

Wow, what a great new release Tuesday this is.  Jodie has two new “Digi Kits” she put together, which you are going to be anxious to get your little fingers on, but first check out what the DT’s have to share with you!  The two kits are Digi Kit Chameleon, and Digi Kit Grad Bear.  The kits include a border, plain and colored, colored papers (2 of them), a sentiment, a sign and two digi’s.  How’s that for a fantastic kit!

For my card I’ve used the plain border and one of the digi images that are part of the Chameleon kit.  I colored both the image and border with copics.  Then layered it all on orange and purple card stock.  The corners are a die from Cuttlebug.

Stamps R Us Challenge – Recipe!

Hi everyone, hope you had a fantastic week-end!  The last two weeks sure went by fast, and what amazing entries we had for our Pets R Us challenge.

This week we are cooking up a “Recipe”!  We would like you to use 1 image, 2 designer papers, and 3 embellishments.  We are very lucky to be sponsored this time by Digital Delights by Louby Loo.  We got to work with a few of her gorgeous images, and I fell in love with the “Lara Ladybug Topper”.  I hope you will check out her store, and do a bit of shopping, you’ll be amazed at all the wonderful images to chose from.

                    Lara Ladybug Topper

Isn’t she just the sweetest!  I have to tell you, while I was coloring this image with Copics, my red marker ran out of ink, so there are a few rough lines of red on the image, but I still think she turned out pretty good.  The two designer papers are left overs from previous projects, so I really don’t remember which company made them.  My 3 embellishments are the ribbon, the hearts on her antennae, and the red pearls.

Mo’s Challenge #86 Recipe For friendship.

I’ve used the adorable “Peaches” image for my card entry this week at Mo’s.  I colored the image with copics.  I used the Martha Stewart Heart corner punch to make the doily behind the card.  It’s hard to see in the picture, but the purple doily has a shimmer to the card stock.  The designer paper is from the Graphic 45 paper pad, and I used the Romance embossing folder by Cuttlebug on the peach card stock.  The flowers are made my Prima.  I used a Sakura glitter pen on the butterflies.  This is a new color combo for me, and I love the purples and peach together, will definitely use it again.

Catch The Bug Challenge – Pearls and Lace

                    BB Pretty Dress

It’s Saturday and time for another challenge on the  Catch The Bug blog.  This week the theme is “Pearls and Lace”, and I’ve used the digital image Party Dress.  Doesn’t she look like she is going to her Prom, she is just so darn cute!

So I colored the image with Copics, and then cut her out, and layered her on card stock cut out with the Spellbinders oval and scalloped dies.  I added some off white pearls on the scalloped oval, and on her flower, and her ear rings.  The designer paper is from the Fairy paper pad.

Fab ‘n’ Funky Challenge #76 Magnificent Men!

Happy Friday everyone!  We are having a beautiful breezy day here today in Montreal.  A wonderful change from the humidity.  I made a birthday card for a friend who’s turning 50 tomorrow.  I combined an old photograph of him in his younger days, and a stamp from Bugaboo featuring the adorable “Gus”.  Who doesn’t love that “old fart”!

                   50th Birthday Elma

I made a recessed window card, and placed his “younger days” photo in the middle, and added photo corners made from the card stock, it gives it a framed look.  The sentiment is a rubber stamp from C.C. Designs.  I computer generated the “50” then layered it on cardstock cut with the round and scalloped Spellbinder dies.

                                 50th Birthday Elma (3)

This is the inside with the “Gus” image which I colored with Copics, and then cut and layered using the oval and scalloped Spellbinder dies.  I’ve had this designer paper for ages, and it was perfect for a male card.  I’ve used a Martha Stewart punch for the green border,  and the Couture Diamond Trellis embossing folder for the cream card stock layer, and then a Doodlebug button to finish it off.

                 50th Birthday Elma (2)

This is a close up of the digital image, it hides the back of the recessed window, and adds some dimension and fun to the inside of the card.  I think he is going to get a real kick out of this card, and at the same time reminisce about his younger days!

The Outlawz Copics/Promarkers Challenge

Welcome to another challenge on The Outlawz.  This week we are challenging you to create a summer background using either Copics and/or Promarkers.

                  Retro Melody

I combined 3 images from Pollycraft, and two of them were for the background.  I used a light blue Copics marker (BG0000) for the sky, then added some colorless blender to a cotton ball, and dabbed it over the blue to form clouds.  Then I lightly highlighted the clouds with C1 (cold grey).  On the bottom I drew grass using 3 colors of copics.  It was my first time trying this technique, and I am quite pleased with the effect.  The second image is the fence, which I colored then layered over the tall grass in the background.  Then I put the main image “Retro Melody”  in front of the fence but below the hill of grass.  The final image is of course the sun, also colored with copics.  The sentiment comes with the stamps.  I’ve used a Martha Stewart border punch, and two embossing folders by Cuttlebug.

Freebie Friday at Bugaboo Stamps!

Wow it’s Friday already, where has the week gone!  We’ve had some beautiful weather, but it’s starting to get humid, I can live without that!  The other good thing about being Friday is that it is “Freebie Friday” at Bugaboo Stamps.  Jodie (the owner) is releasing a set of digital images centered around “Clowns”.  My card features the “Clown Around Unicycle”.

                 Clown Around Unicycle

He is such a cutie!  I colored the image with copics, and then just layered it on card stock.  The red wheels were made with a punch by Martha Stewart.  I’ve had that punch for ages, and this was the first time it came in handy.  I just added red pearls to the centers for some bling.  The designer paper is from the Lauderdale Paper Pad by Basic Grey.  Of course, the sentiment comes from Create With TLC, a freebie from a while ago.

Don’t forget to check out the Bugaboo store, and grab your freebie, and while you are there do some shopping, there are many gorgeous images to chose from!  Have a wonderful week-end.

                    Bra Hang In There

I colored and paper pieced the bras.  The yellow ribbon, and butterflies are from the dollar store.  I kept the card CAS as I wanted the image to be the focal point.  This card took no time to do, which is unusual for me!

Mo’s Digital Pencil

                    Watermelon Girl

This week at  Mo's Digital Pencil we had a sketch to work with.  When I saw this digital image of Watermelon Girl, I knew I had to have it!  I think it’s so sweet.

I colored the image with copics, and then used a Spellbinders round and scalloped die for the layers.  The designer paper I’ve been hoarding, and finally found the perfect image to use it with.  It’s by American Crafts and called “Backyard”.  The lacy border is made with a Martha Stewart border punch.  I made the flowers with the Tim Holtz Tattered Floral die.  The sentiment is a freebie from Create With TLC.

Teddy Bo Challenge #11 Shaped Cards.

                    Teddy Bea

My grandson Owen and his mother were here for a visit in April, and this image reminds me so much of him.  We spent a lot of time at the park, and of course blowing bubbles.  He could never get enough time playing with the bubbles.  I wish there was a Teddy Bo blowing bubbles (hint hint)!  Even still, this “Teddy Bea” is just as sweet!

I colored the image with Copics, and then used the rectangular Spellbinders die to cut it out, making sure to leave the bubbles hanging over the top.  Then I used a glue glaze on the bubbles for texture and shine.  This shaped card is called a Center Step Card, and it was very easy to do, and I love the look of it.  It’s always nice to do something besides a square card.  The layout of the center of the card, is taken from a sketch challenge at Sweet Sketch Wednesday.  The designer paper is by Imaginisce, and it’s called Lucy Bird.  The flowers are by Prima, and the butterfly and pink daisy are dollar store finds.

Catch The Bug Challenge – Anything Goes!

Happy Saturday everyone!  Hope you are having wonderful weather, and it’s warm and sunny.  This week’s challenge at Catch The Bug is “Anything Goes”!

                   J.J. Cook

I’ve used the image “J.J. Cook”, and I love the sentiment that goes with it.  Been there, done that!  Sometimes it seems like such a waste to cook with the wine instead of drinking it.

I colored the image with copics, and then just layered her on A/C cardstock.  I’ve used a Martha Stewart border punch, mini roses from Prima, and an embossing folder by Sizzix.

Be sure to check out the other DT cards/projects, and leave them some love, you won’t be disappointed by all the eye candy!  Good luck, maybe this is your week to win.

Freebie Friday at Bugaboo!

TGIF!!  How true for me, it’s been  hot and humid, and very busy.  Summer’s in Quebec are always humid, and I hate the hot weather, give me the fall anytime.  Hey, I’d even be happy to see it snow!

Since it’s Friday, you know it means another gorgeous Freebie from Jodie (owner) of Bugaboo Stamps.  This week Jodie has the image “Ava Grad Diploma” for you, which coincides with school being finished in the next few weeks.

                   Ava Grad Diploma

After I colored the image with Copics, I used the Spellbinders oval and scalloped dies to cut and layer the image.  The designer paper is from the Hopscotch Paper Pad by Basic Grey.  The embossing is a folder by Couture called Diamond Trellis.  Border punch by Martha Stewart.  I got the sentiment from Create With TLC, she has many wonderful sentiments to chose from.  Ribbon and lace are by Offray.  I made the paper beads with leftovers from the designer papers.

The Outlawz Copic/Promarker Challenge

This Friday the theme for the challenge is a color combo of “PINK and Green” with either Copics or Promarkers.  This week I dusted off an old rubber stamp from Greeting Farm.  It’s been awhile!!

                   Greeting Farm

What a cute little fairy!  So, I used copics to color the image, and then I cut her out, and stamped the wings again so that I could layer the wings.  Then I colored the wings, and added some Martha Stewart glitter.

The designer paper is from Sweet Threads by Basic Grey, and Sweet Fairy Paper pad.  The flowers are from Prima, gems by Crafts, ribbon by Offray.  The sentiment is a freebie from Create With TLC.

OWH Midweek Throwdown Challenge

This midweek throw down challenge at OWH Stars and Stamps is a color combo of “Purple and Green”, and I used an adorable digital stamp from Robyn’s Fetish, that I was lucky enough to win a while ago.  The digi is called “Daisy Days”.

                    Daisy Days

The gorgeous embossed background paper, I’ve had for ages.  I just couldn’t bring myself to cut it or cover it up!!  I thought the little girl waving and saying Miss You, would be great for the solders to send home to a family member.
